‘Extraordinary performance’: PM Modi congratulates Indian Deaflympians for historic medal haul at Tokyo 2025

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated the Indian contingent that won a record‑breaking 20 medals at the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, marking the country’s best-ever performance at the Games. They won nine golds, seven silvers and four bronze medals.

In a post on his official X handle, PM Modi praised the Deaflympians for their extraordinary performance at the 25th Summer Deaflympics 2025 in Tokyo. He further added that with a historic best‑ever medal tally of 20 medals, including 9 Golds, the Indian athletes have once again proven that determination and dedication can lead to outstanding results.

The 73 athletes participated in 11 sports, and finished sixth on the medal table — a first‑time achievement for the nation in the tournament’s history. Shooting dominated the country’s medal haul, winning 16 medals, including seven golds. Notable gold medalists were Sumit Dahiya in wrestling (97 kg men’s freestyle), Diksha Dagar in golf (women’s individual), and Dhanush Srikanth in shooting.

Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the athletes for their historic achievements in the 25th Summer Deaflympics.

PM Modi meets Indian Women’s blind cricket team

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met with the Indian Women’s cricket team after they won the inaugural Blind T20 World Cup, beating Nepal by seven wickets in the final in Colombo.

The triumph for the Indian Women’s blind team in a six-team tournament came days after the women’s senior team lifted its maiden ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai. The members of the blind team presented PM Modi with an autographed bat while he also signed a ball for them.
