Introduction to 800 year old Shri Krishna Math

Shri Krishna Math is not just a temple but is the birthplace of Dvaita Vedanta philosophy.

Founder: This monastery was established in the 13th century by Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya, the great philosopher and originator of Dvaita Vedanta philosophy. He spread this philosophy based on Vedas and Upanishads to the common people.

Year of Establishment: This monastery is approximately 800 years old, making it one of the most ancient and important Vaishnava religious centers in India.

Unique Feature: The most unique feature of this monastery is the direction of the idol of Lord Shri Krishna. Unlike common temples, here Lord Krishna is facing west.

Importance of Kanakakindi: There is a very inspiring story associated with this monastery. This is the place where Lord Krishna appeared to the great saint Kanakadas. He was not allowed entry into the temple due to caste reasons, then he prayed from a jharokha (window) behind the temple. It is said that pleased with their devotion, the idol of Lord Krishna himself turned around and gave them darshan through that window. Today this window is known as ‘Kanakkindi’ (Kanak’s Window) and is a revered place for devotees.

When 1 lakh people will do ‘collective Geeta recitation’

The main attraction of Prime Minister Modi’s visit is the ‘Lakskanth Geetaparayan’ program, which will be organized at Shri Krishna Math. It is being told that in this program 1 lakh participants will collectively recite Shrimadbhagvadgita. Where the teachings of Geeta coming from one lakh voices will make the atmosphere divine and energetic.
