The tech recruiter selected a Tier 3 college student on the basis of practical project rather than an IIT Delhi graduate. Companies give more importance to a candidate’s product development and innovation than rank.
Tech Recruiter ChoosesTier3 Candidate: There is a general belief in India that a student passing out from an IIT will be a million times better than a student from a Tier 3 college. Companies also give priority to such candidates without any hesitation. There is not much logic involved in this. But recently a tech recruiter has set an example by taking a shocking decision.
Why did the tech recruiter work against the trend?
In a post on LinkedIn, a tech recruiter explained why he chose a candidate from a Tier 3 college over a candidate from IIT Delhi. He said that he doesn’t care about JEE scores and is more interested in knowing what “made, broke or improved” them.
IIT candidate could not give the best option
“IIT graduate had Leetcode rating of 1800+. He couldn’t explain how his college project handled 100 concurrent users. Tier 3 graduate built a payment system that processed 50k transactions. Paulo did it. Pushed it forward. Broke it, Phil fixed it”. The tech recruiter reported that a Tier 3 candidate had a better understanding of her work.
Job is decided by skill, not by education.
The recruiter told that he is more interested in knowing what the candidate can do and not his rank. “I care about what you innovate, break tradition, and improve. Companies don’t pay for algorithms you can solve. They pay for processes you can create.”
What are social media users saying
Users have given mixed reactions to this post. Many of whom accused the recruiter of belittling one candidate and praising another just to get views. One person wrote, “I don’t understand the logic of solving 1800 LC questions. Many people waste a lot of energy just because the appointment committee is unable to come up with an effective recruitment strategy.
