Yes, this strange incident has happened in Italy. A 56-year-old man from northern Italy has been accused of impersonating his mother, who died a few years ago, in order to collect her pension. In this way he obtained an annual pension of thousands of euros. According to the report of The Guardian, this act has been done by a resident of Borgo Virgilio near Mantua. Instead of reporting his mother’s death in 2022, he hid her body at home and used all her pension himself, the report said.
How did the matter come to light?
But this matter came to light when the identity card of the deceased woman expired. According to the report, to get a new identity card made, this cunning son wore make-up, wig and women’s clothes to look like his mother. An employee of the municipality office became suspicious and informed the police, due to which the case came to light. Authorities compared the photo of the real dead woman with that of the man who had impersonated her. Feeling suspicious, when officers went to her house, they found the mother’s body hidden in the laundry room.
Lipstick, nail polish and a woman’s voice
Regarding this incident, Borgo Virgilio Mayor Francesco Aporti said that the man had gone to the council office wearing the clothes of an old woman. They said she was wearing lipstick, nail polish, jewelry, old-style earrings and a dark brown wig. The man tried to imitate a woman’s voice, but in between his manly voice was coming out. Then a council employee noticed that her neck looked very thick, her wrinkles were strange and the skin on her hands did not look like that of an 85-year-old woman.
According to reports, the man is an unemployed nurse and was earning around $61,000 i.e. around Rs 50 lakh a year using his mother’s pension and income from three properties. Authorities say the man’s impersonation of his mother is similar to the movie “Mrs. Doubtfire,” in which Robin Williams’ character disguises himself as a woman.
The mayor said that the man’s mother may have died due to natural causes, which will be confirmed by the post-mortem. This is a very strange and sad incident. Officials said that now he faces many charges like hiding his mother’s body, cheating the government, forging government documents and impersonating someone else.
He is also accused of removing fluids from his mother’s body using a syringe to prevent her from decomposing. A post-mortem has been ordered to find out how he died. At present, officials are waiting for the post-mortem report to know how her mother might have died. He has been sent to jail.
