India will host Commonwealth Games 2030, all matches will be held in this city

Ahmedabad will host the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030. This will mark the completion of 100 years of the Commonwealth Games movement. 15-17 sports will be included in these games.

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad has been formally approved as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games. “Ahmedabad has today been formally approved as the host of the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030,” the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said on Wednesday. With this decision it has been confirmed that the world’s most populous country will organize these historic games. The decision came after India’s bid was approved by representatives of 74 Commonwealth member countries and territories at the Commonwealth Sports General Assembly held in Glasgow today. India presented a grand vision for the 2030 Games, the center of which would be the Gujarat city of Ahmedabad. This will build on the foundation laid by Glasgow 2026, enabling India to celebrate its centenary in a befitting manner.

As soon as Ahmedabad was announced as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, 20 Garba dancers-30 Indian drummers arrived at the General Assembly Hall. He surprised the delegates with a spectacular cultural presentation that gave a glimpse of the legacy and pride that athletes and fans can expect from the Games being held in the state of Gujarat. The first Commonwealth Games were held in Hamilton, Canada in 1930. Australia topped the medal tally at the most recent Games in Birmingham, England in 2022, while the top five included England, Canada, India and New Zealand.

Dr Donald Rukiare, Chairman of Commonwealth Sport, said: “This marks the beginning of a new era for Commonwealth Sport. Following the ‘Games Reset’, we are in a fantastic position to head to Glasgow in 2026, where we will welcome 74 Commonwealth teams and then turn our sights to Ahmedabad 2030 for a special centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games.”

Dr PT Usha, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, said, “We are deeply honored by the confidence shown by Commonwealth Sport. The 2030 Games will not only celebrate centenary of the Commonwealth movement, but will also lay the foundation for the next century. It will bring together athletes, communities and cultures from across the Commonwealth in the spirit of friendship and progress.”

Sports programs will be like this in 2030

In addition to confirming the hosts for 2030, Commonwealth Sport also confirmed that Ahmadabad 2030 will feature 15–17 sports. This will follow Commonwealth Sport’s recently completed sports program review, which outlined the sports that will be included in the Commonwealth Games: Athletics and Para Athletics, Swimming and Para Swimming, Table Tennis and Para Table Tennis, Bowls and Para Bowls, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting, Artistic Gymnastics, Netball and Boxing. The process of finalizing the rest of the program will begin next month, and The full Centenary Games list will be announced next year.

The sports being considered are: Archery, Badminton, 3×3 basketball and 3×3 wheelchair basketball, beach volleyball, T20 cricket, cycling, diving, hockey, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, rugby sevens, shooting, squash, triathlon and para triathlon and wrestling. The host may also propose two new or traditional games.
