Team India has faced defeat in the Test series at home for the second time in just one year. Not only defeat, but for the second time Team India got wiped out. The work which New Zealand had done in 2024, has now been repeated by World Test champion South Africa in 2025. In the second match of the Test series played in Guwahati, South Africa defeated India by the biggest margin of 408 runs and swept the series 2-0. Team India has not only had to face a shameful defeat, but it has also slipped to fifth place in the points table of the ICC World Test Championship.
The WTC 2025-27 cycle started in June, when Team India toured England. Since that tour, Team India has played a total of 9 test matches and has won only 4, while facing defeat in 4. There has been a draw in one test match. In this way, Team India has 52 points in its kitty from these 9 test matches, while the point percentage has fallen to 48.15. Due to this, Team India has slipped from fourth place to fifth place.
Before this Test series, Team India was in third place but after the defeat in Kolkata Test match, its point percentage was 54.17 and it came to fourth place. But due to failure to register victory in Guwahati also, it has lost one more place and now Pakistan has come to fourth position with 50 point percentage.
