ICC Men’s T20 World Champion Indian cricket team will defend its title in the next few weeks. T20 World Cup 2026 is starting from 7th February in India and Sri Lanka and its schedule has been officially announced. This time Team India will enter the tournament under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav, who was a part of the Indian team of the last World Cup. Surya, who played an important role in the last World Cup, is excited about leading the team himself this time but his eyes are also set on settling the 2-year old score.
On Tuesday 25 November, ICC announced the schedule of T20 World Cup in a special event. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and captain Rohit Sharma, who won India in the last World Cup, were also present in this event. When Suryakumar was asked about playing the World Cup in his own country and captaining the team, he could not hide his excitement. The Indian captain said that he is very excited to lead the team and it is going to be a lot of fun for everyone.
Suryakumar Yadav wants to take revenge
This World Cup will start from 7th February and continue till 8th March, in which a total of 20 teams are participating. Last time’s champion Team India will be a strong contender for the title this time too. In such a situation, when Suryakumar Yadav was asked that if Team India reaches the final, then which team would he like to play? The Indian captain gave such an answer, which brought out the pain and the fire of revenge inside him. Surya said, “I would like to defeat Australia in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium.”
There is hardly any need to explain to anyone why Surya said this. Still, let us remind that 2 years ago i.e. on 19 November 2023, Australia had won the title by defeating India in the final of the World Cup 2023 played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In that World Cup, Team India had reached the final without losing any match and was considered a real contender to win the title, but Pat Cummins’ team broke the hearts of the entire country in the final in front of about 1 lakh Indian fans. Suryakumar Yadav was also a part of that final and he also had to face a lot of criticism due to his performance.
Team India’s schedule in T20 World Cup
Talking about Team India’s World Cup journey, it will play its first group match against America on 7th February. This match will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After this, India’s next match is against Namibia on 12 February. The most special match of this group and the World Cup will be played in Colombo on 15 February, when India and Pakistan will face each other. Team India will play its last match against Netherlands on 18 February in Ahmedabad.
