IGRS report exposed: 25 inspectors in the dock in Varanasi, big action by Police Commissioner

Varanasi Police Commissioner Mohit Aggarwal directed to take departmental action against 25 inspectors found negligent in IGRS complaints. In many cases, the IGRS ranking of the district was affected due to lack of contact with the complainants and uploading of wrong reports.

On Tuesday, a revelation was made on the law and order situation of Varanasi, which raised questions on the entire system of police-public relations. In the review meeting held in the camp office, it was revealed that complaints were being registered, but in many cases the police neither contacted the complainants nor listened to them. Not only this, some investigating officers upload the report without talking to the plaintiff. Why after all? Is the voice of the public no longer reaching the police?

Shocking facts in the review meeting of Varanasi Police Commissioner

Police Commissioner Mohit Aggarwal reviewed the Public Hearing Redressal System (IGRS) on Tuesday. In the meeting, the rankings for the month of October and the action taken on complaints were analyzed. The report made a big revelation that in many complaints the investigating officer did not contact the complainants even once.

Additionally, in more than five cases, reports were uploaded without even talking to the plaintiffs, leading to negative feedback on the system and a drop in the IGRS ranking of the district. The Police Commissioner termed it insensitive and against police conduct.

Commissioner’s strict action against 25 inspectors

Now a big question is being raised in Varanasi Commissionerate, do the inspectors not listen to the common people? The information received by the commissioner further strengthened this apprehension.

After this, Police Commissioner Mohit Aggarwal took action and identified 25 sub-inspectors (inspectors) who did not act properly on IGRS complaints. Instructions have been issued for immediate departmental action against all of them. The Commissioner placed it in the “category of dereliction of duty” and ordered strict rectification.

What is IGRS platform and why is it important?

Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) is an important digital platform of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, where citizens can-

  • Can lodge complaints related to government services
  • Can track the status of the complaint
  • You can get updates and solutions

This platform brings together many services in one place, such as-

  • property registration
  • stamp duty collection
  • Apply Online for Certificate
  • Pension, Land, Revenue, and other departmental complaints

The objective of IGRS is less paperwork, faster disposal and transparency. But when the officers themselves do not talk to the complainant, it is natural to question the credibility of the system.
