NSG will conduct “NeverEver” theme ceremony in Mumbai on the 17th anniversary of 26/11 attacks. The Gateway of India will be illuminated with pictures of martyrs, Sankalp booths and the tricolor. The objective of the program is to reiterate the resolve for peace, vigilance and national security.
26/11 Mumbai Attack Recall: The Mumbai unit of the National Security Guard (NSG) will conduct a memorial ceremony on the theme “Neverever” at the Gateway of India. The purpose of this event is to pay respect to all the victims, including the victims and survivors of the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks. Also, it is to be assured that such an incident should never happen again in future. Photos of martyrs in the memorial zone
A special memorial zone has been created for this program to be organized on 26th November, in which photographs and names of all the heroes of 26/11 and the martyrs will be shown. Along with this, flower garlands and candles will also be kept. According to reports, a ‘living memorial’ will also be created from the wax of the tribute candles, which will be preserved for future events. Apart from this, 11 colleges and 26 schools of Mumbai will administer oath to the students under the theme “Never Ever”, which will further strengthen the commitment of the youth towards peace, vigilance and national security.
Sankalp Booth at Gateway of India
During the programme, a separate space for pledge booth and message writing has been created, where people can write pledges and messages for the brave martyrs and survivors. Apart from this, the survivors and families of the martyrs of 26/11 attacks will be honoured. As night falls, the Gateway of India will be illuminated with the tricolor and the words “Neverever”, symbolizing the courage and determination of Mumbai and the country.
What is 26/11 attack?
On November 26, 2008, 10 armed terrorists of Pakistan-backed terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba had entered Mumbai through the sea. These terrorists attacked different places in Mumbai, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station, Nariman Point, Leopold Cafe, Madam Cama Hospital and Hotel Taj. 166 people lost their lives in this terrorist attack. Apart from the local people, the dead also included tourists, foreign nationals, policemen and an NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. This 4-day long attack ended with NSG’s Operation Black Tornado, in which the commandos eliminated the last remaining terrorist in Colaba’s Hotel Taj.
Kasab, a terrorist, was captured alive
Nine terrorists were killed in the 26/11 attacks, while 17-year-old Aamir Ajmal Kasab was captured alive. He was later hanged on November 21, 2012. On 3 May 2010, Kasab was found guilty of 80 crimes, including murder, waging war against India, possession of explosives and other charges. On 6 May 2010, he was sentenced to death on four counts and life imprisonment on five counts. Kasab’s death sentence was upheld by the Bombay High Court.
