The Council of Ministers has approved presenting the bill in the Legislative Assembly regarding conducting elections for the post of Chairman of Municipality and Municipal Council in the state again through direct system (voting by direct voters). It is noteworthy that from 1999 to 2014, elections for these posts were held through direct system only. In the year 2022, these elections were conducted by ward councilors through indirect system. The mayor is still elected directly by the voters in the direct system. The government believes that direct election of the president will further strengthen local democracy.
