Aurangzeb defeated Bhai Shah Shuja in the battle to achieve Mughal power.
Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had done many marriages like this, but Mumtaz Mahal was the most mentioned in the pages of history. Those who were also known as Arjumand Bano Begum. Historians also wrote a lot on both the children of both. Mumtaz Mahal gave birth to a total of 14 children, out of which only 6 survived. His names were Dara Shikoh, Aurangzeb, Shah Shuja, Murad Bakhsh, Jahanara and Roshanara. Aurangzeb started shore to his brother Dara Shikoh, Shah Shuja and Murad Baksh to gain power.
Born on 3 July 1616, there was a war between Shah Shuja and Aurangzeb for succession. There are many parts before this battle, which tells that Aurangzeb conspired for his brother.
Bengal Subedar appointed
Shah Shuja participated in military operations and prepared himself as a administrator. Shah Jahan had so much confidence in Shah Shuja’s ability that his mansab gradually increased until he reached the big post. In the year 1639, Shah Jahan appointed Shah Shuja as the Subedar of Bengal. In 1642, he also gave charge of Orissa Province. Shah ruled several provinces from 1639–1660 and started a claim for the throne from 1658 in the last phase of sub-subordination.
Shia Muslims promoted despite being Sunni
Shah Shuja was considered a scholar and cultured. He gave protection to Persian poets and scholars, who adorned his court. These people came mostly from Iran and were from the Shia sect. Shia Muslims dominated Shah’s court. One of his two wives was Shia.
Historians of Dhaka say that Shuja brought 300 Shia Muslims with him to Bengal. They were settled at different places. The supporters of Aurangzeb, who occupied the Mughal Sultanate, took advantage of this.
Shah Shuja and Conspiracy
Aurangzeb’s supporters spread the rumor throughout the Sultanate that Shah Shuja has become a Shia Muslim. Shah Shuja appreciated Persian scholars, Sufi-saints like his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. This was the reason that Shah’s status was increasing, which was pricking the eyes of Aurangzeb and his supporters. Aurangzeb as its cutSupporters spread rumors of Shah becoming Shia Muslim, but this rumor could not last long.
Similar rumors were spread when the Mughal emperor was suffering from the serious illness of Shah Jahan. Many historians claim that taking advantage of the long and serious illness, Aurangzeb spread the rumor of his death. Due to this rumor, the spark of war for the successor between six siblings was provoked.
What happened to Shah Shuja?
Aurangzeb started crossing all limits for power. Put the sick father in jail. Brother Dara got the head of Shikoh. Shah Shuja climbed towards Delhi to gain power, but Aurangzeb defeated him and forced him to run away. After the defeat, Shah Shuja moved to Myanmar via Bengal. The then ruler there gave him shelter, but later the relationship deteriorated.
Many historians claim that Shah was killed when Shah Shuja and the king of Myanmar deteriorated. It is also claimed that he committed suicide after insulting his brother and killing his loved ones.
