MG New SUV: JSW MG Motor India is going to launch a new car on 16th July. The company has not yet revealed the name of the vehicle, but if reports are to be believed, it will be MG’s new mid-size or full-size SUV, which is based on the Wuling Starlight 560 sold in the international market. This SUV has also been seen during testing on Indian roads.
The company has released a teaser which reads, “Internet Inside changed India’s driving experience. Now is the time for a new era of new energy vehicles”. This message is reminiscent of the 2019 MG Hector, which popularized connected car technology. This time, MG’s focus is on ‘New Energy Vehicles’ (NEV) i.e. electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It is clear that the company is preparing to rapidly expand its hybrid and electric portfolio in India.
can be bigger than hector
In the international market, the Wuling Starlight 560 has a length of 4,745 mm and a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. In terms of size, it can be bigger than MG Hector. This SUV comes in 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. Talking about the design, it has a boxy style, a large front grille, LED lighting and wide wheel arches, which give it a strong road presence. At the rear, connected LED taillights, a straight tailgate and a roof spoiler give it a modern look.
premium cabin
Its global model has a large 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Apart from this, automatic climate control, connected car technology and many comfort features have been provided. It is expected that MG may add some more features to it for the Indian market to attract premium SUV buyers.
Electric and hybrid options
This SUV is available in two powertrain options in the global market. The first is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a battery pack. This system generates power of 197 bhp and torque of 230 Nm. The special thing is that this SUV can run for about 100 kilometers only on electricity.
The second option is full electric. It has a 56.7kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces 136hp of power and 200Nm of torque. The company claims that it can give a range of about 500 kilometers in a single charge.
MG has not yet clarified which model will be launched first in India. But with the emphasis on “New Energy Vehicles” in the teaser, it is believed that the plug-in hybrid variant could be the highlight of the launch.
Who will compete?
In the Indian market, this new SUV of MG can compete with vehicles like Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, Toyota Innova Hycross, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. More information about its features, price and launch is expected to be revealed in the coming days.
