Focusing on Food Procurement Reform, the Food and Public Distribution Department organized a state level workshop in Nawa Raipur. The new policy of Broken Rice, Transparency in Custom Milling, Central Food Portal Improvement and technological innovations for farmers were discussed.
Raipur. The Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India organized a state level workshop at Nawa Raipur. The objective was – bringing efficiency, transparency and technical improvements in the food procurement system. Officials of the Food, Cooperative and Agriculture Department of the state participated in it.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) CMD Ashutosh Agnihotri, Joint Secretary of the Government of India, Ms. Shikha and Chhattisgarh Food Secretary Mrs. Reena Baba Saheb Kangale lit the lamp.
Custom milling and new policy on Broken rice
Government of India officials gave measures to bring transparency in custom milling. Joint Secretary Ms. Shikha told-
- Broken rice up to 25% will be brought up to 10% with the help of machines.
- The remaining braken rice will be sold in the open market.
In addition, the new standard operating process (SOP) has been applied for joint physical verification of rice mills, which will use software and automatic selection systems.
Central food portal and storage system improvement
Officials gave information about the Central Food Procurement Portal and the Central Food Storage Portal. In June, FCI provided 188 racks to the state, which stored about 6 lakh metric tonnes of rice. This rice is being sent under welfare schemes in other states including Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra.
Technical facilities for farmers and procurement centers
About 25 lakh farmers of the state sell paddy at 2,739 procurement centers at support price.
- PCSAP software is being used to improve infrastructure in these centers.
- Claims of additional expenses will now be sent through online scan modules so that they are settled quickly.
- Route optimization for rice storage and transport was also discussed.
Innovation and schemes in paddy procurement
Food Secretary Mrs. Reena Babasaheb Kangale told the officials of the Government of India that-
- Rice festival, token tuhar hands and Bastar’s Nayed Nellanar Yojana are running successfully in the state.
- In the next kharif season, registration on the Agrostake Portal has been made mandatory for farmers, so that fake purchases can be stopped.

The workshop was attended by FCI Executive Director Mr. Daljit Singh and Dr. Ashwini Kumar Gupta, Government of India official Mr. Mateshwari Prasad Mishra, Marketing Association and Civil Supplies Corporation M. Mrs. Kiran Kaushal, Director Food Mr. Kartikeya Goyal, Registrar Cooperative Mr. Kuldeep Sharma, FCI General Manager Mr. Devesh Yadav. At the conclusion, the Government of India officials were thanked by giving mementoes.
