Shreyas Iyer is also sitting out due to injury
Another thing that will increase the selection committee’s concerns is that along with Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer is also out due to injury. In such a situation, there are limited options in front of him, in which Rohit Sharma should be given back the captaincy for the ODI series against South Africa or KL Rahul should be given this responsibility.
Rishabh Pant can be made captain
Apart from this, Ajit Agarkar also has the option of Rishabh Pant as captain. Pant was a part of Team India’s squad in the Champions Trophy 2025. However, he did not get a chance to play, because KL Rahul was playing as a wicketkeeper/batsman. Now he has returned in the series against South Africa.
