Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan recently announced their collaboration as actor and producer for the tentatively titled Thalaivar 173 . Following director Sundar C’s exit, new reports suggest that two acclaimed filmmakers are now being considered to take over.
Thalaivar 173: Nithilan Saminathan or Ramkumar Balakrishnan Likely to Direct?
According to strong industry buzz, the makers are leaning towards choosing either Nithilan Saminathan or Ramkumar Balakrishnan as the director of the Rajinikanth-led project.
Both filmmakers gained critical and commercial success with their films Maharaja and Parking, respectively. Though discussions are ongoing, the final confirmation will come only after approval from Rajinikanth and the production team.
Initially, Sundar C was announced as director, but he stepped away from the project shortly after, citing “unforeseen circumstances.”

Maharaja, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap, is a 2024 action-thriller. The story follows a Chennai-based barber who becomes obsessed with finding a missing trash can that holds deep sentimental value before his daughter returns from a sports meet.
