Rohit Sharma is set to make his on-field return in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting November 23. The former India ODI captain is now active in only one format.
He quit T20Is after leading India to a title win in the 2024 World Cup. He quit Test cricket in May this year. Rohit will have another break after the ODI series against SA and he will make his return against New Zealand.
Rohit is on the cusp of a huge milestone and he will join Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid in an elite list if he scores 98 runs in the upcoming ODI series.
Rohit Sharma 98 runs away from huge milestone
Rohit Sharma has scored 19902 runs in 502 matches he has played so far. He is just 98 runs away from completing 20000 runs in international cricket. Sachin, Virat and Dravid are three Indians to score more than 20000 runs in international cricket.
Sachin, the highest run-scorer in international cricket’s history, scored 34357 runs. No other batsman has to score more than 29000 runs.
Virat, who is the third-highest run-scorer in international cricket, has 27673 runs in 553 matches. The Indian legend is now only active in ODIs. He can complete 28000 runs before he retires.
Dravid, one of the two Indian batsmen with more than 10000 runs in Tests and ODIs, scored 24208 runs in 509 matches. The ICC Hall of Famer was often called a Test specialist but he also shone in ODIs.
Rohit is close to becoming the fourth Indian to score 20000 runs. The India opener scored 4301 runs in 67 Tests. He finished his T20I career with 4231 runs.
Rohit has 11370 runs in ODIs. He is likely to quit the 50-over format only after the 2027 World Cup. He has 33 centuries and 59 half-centuries in ODIs. He captained India to a title win in the 2025 Champions Trophy before being sacked from captaincy.
