Mokshada Ekadashi 2025 Date: In Hindu religion, Mokshada Ekadashi is counted among the most virtuous Ekadashis. What not to do on Mokshada Ekadashi?
Rice intake: According to the scriptures, eating rice on the day of Ekadashi is considered prohibited. It is believed that eating rice on this day will give birth to insects in the next life.
Tamasic food: Do not consume garlic, onion, meat, liquor, egg and other tamasic food at all. Consume satvik food one day before the fast (Dashami).
Plucking Basil: Tulsi leaves should not be plucked on the day of Ekadashi, because on this day Mother Tulsi also keeps a fast for Lord Vishnu. Pluck the basil leaves a day before and keep them for use in puja.
Sleeping during the day: One should avoid sleeping during the day during the fast. One should stay awake and sing bhajans and kirtans of Lord Vishnu even at night.
Do not fight with anyone in anger or abuse: Do not get angry and do not use abusive words for anyone. Maintain purity in mind, words and deeds.
Food before donation: Before breaking the fast on Dwadashi Tithi, feed and donate food to any Brahmin, Sadhu or needy person.
What to do on Mokshada Ekadashi?
Worship of Lord Vishnu: Wake up early in the morning, take bath, wear yellow clothes and worship Lord Vishnu/Shri Krishna as per the rituals. Chant the mantra “Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay” 108 times. Since this day is also Geeta Jayanti, make sure to recite Shrimad Bhagwad Gita. On this day, donating clothes, food or yellow things as per your capacity to a needy person is considered very auspicious. Offer water to the Tulsi plant and in the evening, light a lamp and circumambulate the plant.
