While reviewing the preparations for Magh Mela 2026, CM Yogi said that about 15 crore devotees will come to the fair spread over 800 hectares. Work is going on war footing for water, electricity, sanitation, security, transport, health and sewerage prevention.
Prayagraj. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a detailed review meeting on Magh Mela preparations on Saturday and then informed the media. He said that the fair work is going on war footing and this event will be given a divine and grand look for the Kalpavasis and devotees.
Dates and estimated crowd of main bathing festivals
The Chief Minister said that this time the date of Magh Mela is coming 15 days earlier. Major bathing dates are as follows:
- January 3: Paush Purnima
- 15 January: Makar Sankranti
- 18 January: Mauni Amavasya
- 23 January: Basant Panchami
- 1 February: Magh Purnima
- 15 February: Mahashivratri
From January 3 to February 1, lakhs of Kalpavasis will meditate in the Sangam area for a month. It is estimated that 12 to 15 crore devotees will take bath in Sangam in one and a half month. Every day 20-25 lakh people will reach here from different areas. The entire fair is being set up in an area of 800 hectares, in which 7 sectors have been earmarked. 42 parking spaces will be created for the devotees.
Larger fair area than in 2024
CM Yogi said that Prayagraj Fair Authority was formed by the government itself, under whose leadership all the major events are conducted. Preparations for Magh Mela 2026 have started and its scope has been increased as compared to 2024. The team has the experience of the successful Maha Kumbh of 2025, which was appreciated worldwide.
All departments are preparing together
The Chief Minister said that the UP government has instructed all the concerned departments to work together.
- Irrigation Department: Will ensure flood prevention measures and adequate water availability.
- Presently 19-20 thousand cusecs of pure water is available in Sangam and at least 10 thousand cusecs of water will be ensured during the fair period also.
- Namami Gange: Will take charge of the purity of water.
- Power Corporation: Will ensure uninterrupted power supply and electric safety.
- Work on 47 km HT line, 360 km LT line and 25 temporary sub stations is in progress.
Not even a single drop of sewer will go into Ganga-Yamuna
PWD will construct connecting and internal routes, so that no sewer leakage reaches Ganga-Yamuna.

Health facilities: two hospitals, 50 ambulances
For quick treatment of devotees:
- Two hospitals of 20 beds each
- 12 PHC
- a vector control unit
- 5 Ayurvedic and 5 Homeopathic hospitals
- 50 ambulances will be available
25 thousand toilets and 3000 sweepers
Are being deployed by the Urban Development Department:
- 25,000 toilets
- 8,000 dustbins
- 10 lakh liner bag
- 20 suction carts
- 3,000 sweepers
Strong police arrangements for fair security
Extensive security preparations are being made in the fair area:
- 17 police stations
- 42 police posts
- 20 fire tenders
- 7 fire stations
- 20 watch towers
- Water Police Station and Control Room
- 8 km deep water barricading will be installed by UP Police
3800 buses will take care of the convenience of the devotees
400 AI-enabled CCTV cameras for crowd management and traffic control, 3800 buses for transportation (of these, 3000 buses will be from the Transport Corporation), 75 shuttle buses, electric buses between the city and the fair area, 200 buses in reserve, construction of tent city is going on at a fast pace.
