Mumbai SMAT 2025 Squad: Suryakumar Yadav Included, Shardul Thakur named Captain

Suryakumar Yadav is set to make his return to domestic T20 cricket as he joins Mumbai’s squad for the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The tournament, a key platform for players to showcase their T20 prowess, will commence on November 26, with Mumbai playing their league matches at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Following a stellar IPL season where Suryakumar amassed 717 runs with an impressive strike rate of 167.91, his international T20 form has faltered during 2025. In 15 innings for India this year, he scored a modest total of 184 runs at an average of 15.33 and a strike rate of 127.77, indicating a dip in his usual batting dominance.

Mumbai’s decision to include him in their squad underscores the dual advantage: it strengthens the defending champions while offering Suryakumar a chance to rebuild confidence and rhythm. Suryakumar Yadav, despite being India’s T20I captain, will not lead the Mumbai side as Shardul Thakur is set to lead the team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Mumbai squad, alongside Suryakumar, also includes seasoned campaigners like Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, and Sarfaraz Khan, providing a rich batting lineup and all-round options.
