A big news related to Aadhar card has come out. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has canceled (closed) about 1 crore 17 lakh Aadhaar numbers. This step has been taken because in many cases it was seen that Aadhaar cards of dead people were being misused.
To stop this misuse, UIDAI has started blocking such Aadhaar numbers. According to media reports, these 12-digit Aadhaar numbers have been completely deactivated so that no fraud can occur.
Data collected from 24 states
UIDAI collected data on deaths of 1.55 crore people from 24 states and union territories of the country. This data was obtained through the Civil Registration System (CRS). When these data were examined, it was found that out of these, 1.17 crore Aadhaar numbers were no longer necessary, hence they were discontinued.
UIDAI has received information about about 6.7 lakh deaths from areas where CRS is not fully functional. Those Aadhaar numbers will also be canceled soon.
This step of UIDAI has been taken to keep the Aadhaar card secure and reliable, so that the identity of any deceased person cannot be misused.
