Kollam: Following a gap of nearly 15 days, Kerala is likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds till November 24.
While the southern districts of the state is expected to receive heavy rainfall, central and northern districts are expected to receive moderate and light spells
The downpour is under the influence of a low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm in 24 hours) at one or two places in the state during this period. A yellow alert has been issued for seven districts — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki — for Friday. A yellow alert indicates heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
Moderate rain expected in Sabarimala till Oct 23
The IMD has also warned that moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning is expected in Sabarimala till Saturday.
Meanwhile, adverse weather conditions are likely to continue in the coming days, with the IMD predicting that a low-pressure area may form over the southeast Bay of Bengal on Saturday and intensify into a depression by Monday.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has advised the public to remain cautious and avoid risky situations during heavy rain.
