Mumbai have appointed Shardul Thakur as their captain for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, starting November 26. India T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav has been named in the squad but will play under Shardul.
Since Suryakumar won’t be available of the complete tournament due to his India commitment, which is likely the reason why he wasn’t named the captain.
The right-handed batsman is scheduled to lead the Men in Blue in the T20I series against South Africa from December 9 to 19. The domestic T20 league is scheduled to be played from November 26 to December 18.
The Mumbai squad includes Ajinkya Rahane, Ayush Mhatre, Shivam Dube, Tushar Deshpande and Sarfaraz Khan, among others. Dube is set to be named in the India T20I squad for the SA series and won’t be available for the complete tournament.

Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead Maharashtra
Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead Maharashtra in the T20 tournament. He wa recently retained as Chennai Super Kings captain for IPL 2026. Prithvi Shaw, who switched his base to Maharashtra before the season, will play his first T20 game for the state.
The squad includes Rahul Tripathi and domestic cricket veteran Jalaj Saxena. Maharashtra will kick off their campaign against Jammu and Kashmir on the opening day of the tournament.
The T20 tournament will give players a platform to perform well and attract the interest of the IPL franchises. The IPL 2026 mini-auction is scheduled to be held on December 16.
