During this period, violent clashes took place between Gen-Z and workers of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s party i.e. CPN-UML. After this curfew has been imposed. Earlier in September this year, youth in Nepal had revolted and violent demonstrations took place across the country.

Most of the historical and modern buildings of the capital Kathmandu were set on fire. Due to this movement, even Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to leave his post and a new interim government was formed. During this demonstration, a name for the youth came into discussion – Gen-Z. After this, names like Millennial or Gen-Y, Gen-Alpha came into vogue for different generations. Who gave them these names?

This is the year 1998. Tom Brokaw, an American journalist, had written a book named Greatest Generation. In this book, Tom Brokaw wrote about the people born between 1901 and 1927 and called this generation the Greatest Generation, because these people were born in the backdrop of the First World War and also participated in the Second World War. During this period he faced poverty and many diseases. However, after 1927 many more new generations have come. Among these, Millennial or Gen-Y and Gen-Z (GenZ or Generation-Z) are discussed a lot on social media. He is also given the title of second greatest. Apart from these two generations, Baby Boomer, Silent Generation, Gen-X and Gen-Alpha are also in the queue.

There was mention of the Baby Boomer generation, which started with the end of the Second World War. Novelist and journalist named Douglas Coupland mentioned Gen-X in an article in Vancouver Magazine in 1987. According to him, he had taken this word from a book named, Class: A Guide Through the American Status System. The modern era is considered to have begun from this generation. This generation first got TV and computer. His inclination towards cinema, art and music increased. Gen-X was the first to enjoy modern and technological advances.

1981–1996: Millennial

In the year 1991, a book by William Strauss and Neil Howe was published, whose name was Generation. In this, Millennials were mentioned for the first time. Millennials were also called Gen-Y but perhaps they did not like this name. That is why it did not become very popular. During the time of people of this generation, TV changed from black and white to color and the era of mobile phones and then smartphones started from landline phones. A lot of technological changes took place during this period. New technologies were used. Sports, movies, TV and music attracted this generation a lot.

1997–2012: Gen-Z

People born between 1997 and 2012 were called Gen-Ji. Actually, in the year 2005, rapper MC Lars had used the word ‘I Generation’ in a song. Then a writer named Jean Twenge mentioned I-Jane in her book. From there came the name Generation-G, whose short form became Gen-G. He was also called Zoomer. Gen-G is actually a generation that grew up in the era of smartphones and the internet. This is the generation of the digital age.

2013–2024: Generation Alpha

An Australian social researcher named Mark McCrindle did a research in the year 2008. After the same research, people born between 2013 and 2024 were called Generation Alpha. Since most of the parents in this generation are Millennials, Gen-Alpha is also called Mini-Millennials. This generation has grown up using smartphones and other gadgets to the extent of addiction. Internet and social media also have a lot of influence on this.

2025-2039: Beta Baby

Children born from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2039 will be called beta babies. It was coined by Mark McCrindle and represents the next generation after Generation Alpha. These children will be completely immersed in the digital age from birth and will grow up with common technologies like AI, automation and virtual reality.
