Gujarati social media influencer Kirti Patel arrested under PASA act, for alleged criminal activities

New Delhi: A popular Gujrati social media influencer, Kriti Patel known for her bold and fearless online presence, is currently in Vadodara Central Jail. Surat Police recently filed a case against her under the PASA (Prevention of Anti-Social Activities) Act. Under this act, bail can only be granted by the High Court, and hearings follow a specific roster schedule, which can take up to one year.

Kirti, who has over 1.3 million followers on Instagram, was arrested for allegedly being involved in criminal activities, including defaming people, extortion, and other illegal acts. Several cases have been registered against her in places such as Surat, Gandhinagar, Patan, and Junagadh. Previously, she was arrested in Ahmedabad.

Why the Police Took Action
The police have said that Kirti continued her alleged criminal activities even after being released on bail for the previous cases. She did not stop posting threatening and abusive videos on social media while collecting money illegally. Authorities also said that normal legal procedures were insufficient to prevent her from disturbing public order. As a result, the PASA Act was invoked, which allows authorities to detain individuals in a district away from their home area to prevent further anti-social activities. Bail under PASA is difficult and can take up to a year to process.

PASA Act
The PASA Act, 1985, is made for individuals who are considered dangerous or a threat to public safety. It is commonly applied to bootleggers, drug offenders, property grabbers, and cybercriminals. The law allows preventive detention to stop individuals from engaging in anti-social or harmful activities that could endanger public order.

Following her arrest under the PASA Act, Kirti Patel was sent to Vadodara Central Jail. Police continue to monitor the situation, emphasising that this action is meant to maintain public safety and prevent further disturbances caused by the accused.
