according to legend…
According to the legend, once a yagya was organized for the welfare of the world. At that time the question arose that to whom should the fruits of this yagya be offered. The responsibility of this matter was given to Rishi Bhrigu. First of all Bhrigu went to sage Brahma ji. After that he reached Lord Shiva, but sage Bhrigu found both the gods unsuitable to offer the fruits of the yagya.
Finally he reached Lord Vishnu in Baikunth Dham. At that time Lord Vishnu was resting. God did not know about the arrival of sage Bhrigu. Sage Bhrigu considered this an insult. Then in anger he hit Vishnu ji’s chest. On this, Lord Vishnu caught the feet of sage Bhrigu and asked whether he was hurt anywhere.
Mother Lakshmi left Baikunth Dham
After this, sage Bhrigu realized his mistake and decided that the results of the yagya would be offered to Lord Vishnu. Mother Lakshmi felt very sad when sage Bhrigu insulted Lord Vishnu. He wanted to take revenge for this insult, but the Lord did not do so. On this Goddess Lakshmi left Baikunth Dham.
Lord Vishnu searched for her a lot, but she was not found anywhere. After this, Lord Vishnu was born on earth in the name of Srinivas. Lord Shiva and Brahma ji took the form of a cow and calf to help them. Mother Lakshmi was born as Padmavati. After some time, Srinivas and Padmavati got married.
This is how the tradition of offering hair started
Lord Vishnu had borrowed money from Kuber Ji to complete some rituals in the marriage. He also said that he will repay all the loan along with interest till the end of Kaliyuga. Since then, devotees donate money to repay the debt of Lord Vishnu. Hair is also donated in the same sequence. According to beliefs, whoever donates hair in the temple, God returns 10 times the money.
