In a video message to farmers, Chouhan said, “Today I am giving you a good news… Two types of losses were not covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and were being demanded for a long time. One, damage caused to crops by wild animals. Second, damage caused to crops due to flood or waterlogging due to heavy rains. I want to tell you that now both these losses are being covered under the Crop Insurance Scheme. If wild animals damage the crops, then the Compensation will be given. If crops get damaged due to waterlogging, then compensation will be given for that also…”

This announcement will benefit thousands of farmers who previously suffered losses due to these natural causes but were not eligible for insurance claims. The post further read, “In the last ten years, food grain production has recorded a historic growth of more than 106 million tonnes. The spectacular growth in all major crops including rice, wheat, maize and millets is a testament to the agricultural strength of the country and the effectiveness of the central government’s policies. The efforts of the central government have also led to a record growth in pulses and oilseeds. Oilseeds production has increased to 42.989 million tonnes, and total pulses production to 25.683 million tonnes.” The significant increase in crops like groundnut, soybean, gram and moong highlights the success of the ‘Oilseeds Mission’ and ‘Pulse Self-Reliance Mission’.”
