CBSE Board Exam 2026: Practical starts from January 1, assessment system changed, strict instructions to schools

CBSE has released the schedule to start practicals from January 1 for the 2026 board exam. Besides, a new assessment structure and strict guidelines were also issued. Read full details further to know.

CBSE Board Exam 2026: CBSE Board has issued a major update regarding the 2026 examinations. The dates of practical, project and internal assessment for classes 10 and 12 have been announced. Along with this, the board has also released a new and detailed assessment structure this time, so that students and schools can know in advance how marks will be obtained in which subject and what changes have been made. The board says that these new guidelines will help the schools to prepare in time, so that there is no disturbance or delay during the examination.

Practicals will start from January 1, complete assessment will continue till February 14.

According to the circular issued on the official website of CBSE, practical and project work will be conducted in all schools from January 1, 2026 to February 14, 2026. The board has directed that the dates should not be shifted due to any reason, so that the theory examination of the students is not affected. CBSE believes that by strictly following the timeline, the process will be uniform across the country and the last-minute pressure on students will be reduced.

CBSE released new assessment structure

This time the board has shared a clear framework for every subject. Separate clear guidelines have been given for each subject which include how many marks of theory will be there in which subject, how many marks of practical, number of project work, weightage of internal assessment, in which subjects external examiner will come and which answer booklet will be used. Direct link of subject wise structure for class 10 and 12 has also been given by CBSE in the circular.

CBSE’s strict warning to schools: If you make a mistake, you cannot correct it later.

CBSE has clearly said that since many years, mistakes have been increasing in schools while uploading marks. The board has warned that negligence will not be accepted this time. If wrong marks are uploaded, changes will not be made later. This step has been taken so that there is no problem at the time of results and the entire data remains correct and transparent.

Total score of each subject is 100

According to the new structure, each subject will be of 100 marks, but some subjects will include theory and practical, some will include theory and project, some will include theory and internal. CBSE has advised schools to read all the attached documents before starting the evaluation.

CBSE also revealed the format of answer booklet for theory exam.

This time the board has also told what type of answer booklet and how many pages will be used in the theory exam. With this, schools will be able to keep the stock ready in advance and there will be no problem during the examination.
