Delhi Mayor Parvesh Wahi has held a big meeting before the monsoon. Officials from many agencies like PWD, DDA, traffic police participated in it. The purpose of the meeting was to find out how to save the people of Delhi from the problem of waterlogging this time.

New Delhi. Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi has held a high-level meeting regarding preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. The purpose of this meeting held at the Municipal Corporation (MCD) headquarters on Tuesday was to ensure that concrete arrangements are made to prevent waterlogging in the city.

Discussion on strategy to prevent waterlogging under ‘Operation Mission Monsoon’

This meeting was named “Operation Mission Monsoon”. In this, the lack of coordination between different departments of Delhi and the challenges related to waterlogging were discussed. Besides, the work of cleaning the drains, which is being done by different agencies, was also reviewed.

Coordination of departments to provide relief to Delhiites in monsoon

The main objective of the meeting was to bring all the departments together so that the people of Delhi face minimum problems during monsoon.

Many major agencies including PWD, DDA, DMRC participated in the meeting.

Senior officials of Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Flood and Irrigation Department, Indian Railways, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Municipal Corporation participated in this meeting.

Special focus on drainage system and waterlogged areas

The agencies discussed important issues like drainage system, places where there is high risk of water logging, steps to be taken in emergency and mutual coordination.

Instructions to keep pumps, motors and machines ready before monsoon

Mayor Shri Pravesh Wahi said that all departments will have to work together to deal with the situation during monsoon. He instructed the officials that water pumping pumps, motors and all other necessary machines should be kept fully ready. The Mayor also said that all the machines and equipment should be thoroughly checked in advance to ensure that there are no disturbances during heavy rains.

Special action plan will be made for waterlogging affected areas of Delhi

He stressed on identifying the places in the city which get flooded every year. He directed the agencies to prepare a specific action plan for each area based on the experience of previous years.

Monsoon management system will be better than the experience of previous years

Mr. Wahi said that we should include the lessons learned from the last monsoon in this year’s preparations. He asked all the agencies to remain in constant touch with each other, so that immediate action can be taken on any problem related to waterlogging or drainage.

Review of drain cleaning work, monitoring system will be strengthened

During the meeting, officials reviewed the current status of drain cleaning work and decided what steps would be taken to monitor the work, share information and immediately remove any blockage.

Collaboration of all agencies for better monsoon management in Delhi

All the agencies participating in the meeting assured that they will cooperate fully to improve monsoon management in Delhi.

Many senior officials including Deputy Mayor were present

Deputy Mayor Monica Pant, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav, DEMS Committee Chairman Sandeep Kapoor, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar and senior officials of other departments were also present in this meeting.

Delhi Municipal Corporation is committed to ensure that monsoon preparations are completed and through mutual coordination, citizens are saved from problems caused by waterlogging.
