Exclusive! Kannappa vs Maa vs FI Box Office prediction: Which movie is expected to win the race?

New Delhi: This week will be an exciting one for cinema lovers, as three major releases are set to hit the big screen—mythological actioner Kannappa, horror thriller Maa, and Hollywood high-speed spectacle F1: The Movie. All three movies gear up for a box office face-off.

Kannappa is a mythological drama based on the legend of Bhakta Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, Prabhas, Kajal Aggarwal, and Mohan Babu. On the other hand, Maa is a chilling horror featuring Kajol fighting demonic forces to save her daughter. The movie is a part of the Shaitaan universe. Talking about F1, the movie stars Brad Pitt and revolves around a former Formula 1 racer who once again rises to glory.

Now, in an exclusive conversation with News9, trade analyst Akshaye Rathi opined on the box office predictions of Kannappa, Maa, and F1 and how they are expected to fare at the ticket window despite tough competition.

Q. How much is Maa expected to earn on its opening?

A. We’ll see. Maa is a film that belongs to a genre, horror, which I believe is truly theatrical intrinsically in terms of its nature. And with the right kind of marketing push and the right kind of release, it can actually surprise everyone with its opening. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it does opening numbers of Rs 6-7 crores with the right kind of crescendo being reached with its marketing by the day it hits the cinemas on Friday.

Q. How much Kannappa is expected to earn on its first day?

A. Well, Kannappa, if you factor in all the languages, you should be able to do a very good number overall. Hindi may be a little lesser compared to Telugu, which is the home market, purely because Kannappa is a legend and a story that’s very deeply entrenched in the Telugu literature and history. While in Hindi, the story of Kannappa is still a bit unknown. So Hindi, I think it’s a market that will discover it over time, but Telugu is where it should really be. The Telugu-speaking markets are where it should really take off well.

Q. Will F1 beat the Indian movies at the box office?

A. I don’t know if F1 can beat the Hindi movies at the box office, but the movie that it will give the toughest fight to, I think, is going to be Sitaare Zameen Par. Because both of them are movies that are absolutely urban multiplexing phenomena in India. And I truly think that both the movies would compete for, you know, top numbers. And both of them look extremely exciting. And I really hope that they can both draw a good number of people to the cinemas altogether.

Q. Three movies are clashing this week – Which one is expected to win at the box office this week?

A. It’s tough to really say who’s going to win over the other. What we really hope for is that all of them, you know, bring different kinds of different categories and different segments of people to the cinemas simultaneously. We always believe that, you know, movies that complement each other in terms of getting different kinds of audience demographics should always be put into cinemas together. And this week, between Kannappa, Maa, and F1, seems to be offering just that. So here’s hoping that we see great portfolios at cinemas all over the country.
