Shri Hit Premanand Govind Sharan Ji Maharaj: In today’s time, everyone starts chanting the name along with taking Dakshina from the Guru to get the blessings of God, peace of mind and to walk in the right path.
Usually seekers just chant the name. But some of the rules associated with it are ignored. Premanand Maharaj ji has told about the best results of chanting the name. He said that just by chanting the name you can attain every happiness of life. Similarly, a video of Premanand Govind Sharan Maharaj is available on his official account Bhajan Marg on YouTube. In which he has told about 10 such crimes which those who chant the name should not commit at all. Let us know about these name chanting crimes…
Premanand Maharaj Ji says that if we chant the name, then first of all it is necessary to understand that while chanting the name, we must avoid the 10 crimes mentioned in the scriptures. The name itself fulfills all the wishes and by chanting the name attainment of God is also certain. But if these 10 crimes are present in life then Naam is not fruitful and the seeker gets confused thinking that he has been chanting Naam for so many days but did not get any benefit. Therefore, it is requested that chanting of name should be less but should be free from these crimes.
Those who chant the name, do not commit these 10 crimes
condemnation of saintly men
The name is received only through the tradition of a saint, great man or guru. Therefore, criticizing the saints is considered the biggest crime of Naam-Sadhana. Pardosh darshan (seeing faults of others), pardosh shravan (hearing criticism of others) and pardosh kathan (condemning) i.e. these three weaken the power of name. It is said in the scriptures that by criticizing a saint, the virtues accumulated over many births are destroyed and the spiritual practice of the seeker gets affected.
Differentiate between Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu
Both Lord Shiva and Vishnu are considered to be the form of the same supreme element. It is considered a great sin to differentiate between them or to believe in mutual opposition. If a Shaiva criticizes a Vaishnav and a Vaishnav criticizes a Shaivite, then that person is not able to progress in Naam Sadhana. Both of these are two forms of God, hence having hatred towards them hinders the success of chanting the name.
insulting or disobeying the teacher
Premanand Maharaj Ji says that the position of Guru is said to be higher than that of the gods. It is the Guru who gives the name and opens the door to salvation. Therefore, if the Guru is disrespected, no matter how much the devotee chants his name, he does not get the result. Slandering the Guru, not following his orders or ignoring his words due to ego is a major fault of Naam-Sadhana.
Condemning any Veda, Shastra, Purana or Santvani
Premanand Maharaj, while explaining the fourth crime, said that the purpose of every scripture is to lead the seeker towards the truth. There are different paths for different seekers. Calling one book superior and another inferior or criticizing it is considered fatal for Naam-Sadhana. By criticizing the scriptures the power of the name becomes ineffective.
The glory of God’s name is limitless, it is not an imagination, it is a truth. If the seeker thinks ‘how can the name be so powerful’ or ‘this is just exaggerated’, then it is considered a crime. Doubt on the glory of the Name reduces the determination and devotion in the mind of the seeker.
sin on the basis of name
Premanand Maharaj says that thinking that I will commit sins throughout the day and will erase everything by chanting the name at night. This is a grave sin. By having such a feeling one’s name and fame go away. The name of God is not chanted on the basis of greed, pretense or hypocrisy, but with a pure heart.
Considering yagya, charity, penance, fasting etc. as equal to or superior to the name.
In all the scriptures, name has been described as the supreme means. No matter how great a yagya, charity or penance is, it cannot be equal to the name. The name has been said to be superior to God, so putting other means above the name is a crime. The results of these means are limited, but the results of the name are limitless and infinite.
To preach the name out of greed for money or by force to an unwilling person
Naam Upadesh should be given only to a qualified and willing person. If any guru or person gives a name to someone for money, greed, pride or selfishness, or imposes chanting of the name on an unwilling person, then it is considered a crime. Name initiation is a matter of sacred sentiment, not of business.
Not following and ignoring the rule of chanting the name even after hearing the glory of the name.
If a person hears the glory of the name again and again and still does not follow the rule of chanting the name due to laziness, carelessness or neglect, then this is also considered a crime. Not chanting the name even after hearing the name takes the seeker back spiritually. Naming results only when there is continuity and loyalty.
Even after listening to satsang and name-glorification, do not give up ego, object-indulgence and ‘I-mine’ tendencies.
The purpose of satsang is to change the mind. If a person hears the glory of God but does not bring any change in his behavior, nature and life, then this is also a crime of name. Holding on to ego, anger, lust, jealousy, hatred and delusion are major obstacles to Naam-sadhana.
