Nepal Gen-Z Protest: There was huge devastation in Nepal two months ago i.e. in September due to deteriorating conditions. The same picture is being seen once again. According to reports, curfew has been imposed in Nepal’s Bara district as youth calling themselves Gen Z took to the streets a day after clashes with CPN-UML cadre. Why did tension spread in Nepal?

Tension started in Bara district when UML (Unified Marxist-Leninist) leaders planned to visit the district ahead of the elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. The clash occurred when a Buddha Air flight carrying CPN-UML general secretary Shankar Pokharel and party youth leader Mahesh Basnet was about to take off from Kathmandu for Simara, where he was to address an anti-government rally. As the confrontation escalated, police fired tear gas at the protesters, forcing operations at the airport to be halted.

In September, the Nepal government had banned social media for some time, after which Gen-Ji got angry. The protesters later turned violent to expose government corruption. During this period, at least 76 people were killed in the violence in Nepal. The protesters had forced the then Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Oli to step down.

Sushila Karki becomes interim Prime Minister
