UP Woman Kidnapped, Drugged And Gangraped For 48 Days; Later ‘Raped’ Again By 2 Cops

A woman was kidnapped, drugged and allegedly gangraped by four men in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh and other locations. The 28-year-old, in her complaint, also accused two investigating cops of raping her later.

The two sub-inspectors in Bulandshahr’s Khurja have been suspended pending investigation. According to the complainant, the duo not only extorted Rs 50,000 from her on pretext of acting on her complaint but also subjected her husband to abuse, detaining him and threatening a false case against him to force her to comply with their demands.

Meanwhile, the main accused in the case has been arrested and jailed.

Conflicting Statements From Complainant: Police

The police say that the woman has changed her statements multiple times with regard to the two cops she accused of rape.

The National Commission of Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident, with Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar writing a note to the DGP, Uttar Pradesh, demanding strict action against all accused, including the police officials involved. The NCW has also sought a detailed action taken report from the police within seven days.

The woman in her complaint stated that she was kidnapped last November by four men, and taken to different locations across Uttar Pradesh, where she was drugged, gangraped and forcibly converted.

She said that the main accused had contacted her on Instagram and later introduced her to the other three accused.

She wrote that when she approached the police for help, one of the cops summoned her to his private residence and raped her multiple times over two days, while the other took Rs 50,000 from her to ensure justice.

She further stated that in a separate incident, she was attacked by two unidentified bike-borne men, though no FIR has been filed in the case yet.

She also said that the police had delayed her initial FIR in the gangrape case and that some of the accused, who she said were influential, had attempted to silence her and her family.

The police, however, said that the woman had changed her version multiple times.

“The fresh allegations against the two officers were serious and both were suspended with immediate effect. The woman has changed her version multiple times and is now unwilling to file a formal complaint specifically naming the officers, which has made internal proceedings more complex although the suspension remains in force,” Bulandshahr SSP Dinesh Kumar said.

Kumar added that the probe into the case found that only one accused – the one who contacted her on Instagram – was involved. He has been arrested and sent to jail.

However, the involvement of other three was doubtful, he said, saying that their call detail records and mobile phone locations did not place them at the scenes of crime mentioned by the complainant.
