New Delhi: Businessman Anil Ambani’s troubles don’t seem to be ending soon, as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) continues its investigation against him and his companies. Over the past few months, the agency has taken several major actions, each adding new pressure on the Reliance Group.
Recently, the ED attached assets worth more than Rs 7,500 crore. These include Anil Ambani’s Pali Hill house in Bandra (Mumbai), along with several flats, plots and offices belonging to Reliance Communications and Reliance Infrastructure Limited in Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Goa, Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai. These attachments were made in connection with ongoing money laundering investigations linked to the companies.
Irregularities in past transaction
According to sources, the agency has now issued another order attaching properties worth over Rs 1,400 crore. With this fresh action, the total value of attached assets has reached nearly Rs 9,000 crore. The case has been a priority for the ED for some time, and the latest step shows that the investigation is only getting more intense.
The latest attachment was done under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), and the newly seized properties are spread across different parts of the country. Officials say these actions are directly linked to financial irregularities found in past transactions involving the companies.
Anil Ambani under travel ban
So far, the Reliance Group has not issued any official statement on the new attachment. The ED claims the action is based on evidence pointing to suspicious dealings and misuse of funds. Anil Ambani is already under a travel ban, which means he cannot leave India while the investigation is underway. The ED has also questioned several of his close associates, including Angarai Sethuraman, as part of the probe.
One major focus of the investigation is Reliance Communications, which owns the Reliance Centre office on Maharaja Ranjit Singh Marg in Delhi. The company is being investigated for the alleged diversion of more than Rs 13,600 crore. The case continues to unfold, with more actions expected as the ED deepens its inquiry.
