Mohammed Shami was looking for a chance in the ODI and T20 series against Australia, but BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that we have no idea about the fitness of Mohammed Shami. For this reason he did not get a chance in the ODI and T20 series against Australia.
Ajit Agarkar said this on not giving place to Mohammed Shami
When Indian team’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar was asked why Mohammed Shami did not get a chance in the Indian team for the ODI and T20 series against Australia. On this, Indian team’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar said, “‘I did not get any update. Shami played in the Duleep Trophy. But in the last two-three years he did not play much cricket. I think he played one match for Bengal and Duleep Trophy. As a performer, we know what he can do, but he has to play cricket.’
Mohammed Shami hit back
Mohammed Shami performed brilliantly in the first match against Uttarakhand. Mohammed Shami took 3 wickets in 14.5 overs. During this period his economy was only 2.49. Mohammed Shami now said to Indian team’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar, “The Indian team did not talk to me about my fitness. I am not the one who had to tell them about my fitness. They should have asked me. If I can play four-day cricket then why can’t I play 50 over matches? If I was not fit, I would have been in NCA, not playing Ranji Trophy matches here.”
