199 pending cases of Uttarakhand were identified for Special Lok Adalat 2026. The Chief Secretary instructed the departments for agreement and quick disposal.

An important review meeting was held in the Secretariat Auditorium under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan. The objective of the meeting was to assess the preparedness of the Uttarakhand government for the Special Lok Adalat (Samdhaan Ceremony-2026) to be held in the Supreme Court in New Delhi in the coming month of August. During this, the status of pending cases presented by the state and departmental coordination arrangements were discussed in detail.

Special Lok Adalat will be held in the Supreme Court from 21st to 23rd August

It was informed in the meeting that a special Lok Adalat will be organized in the Supreme Court from 21 to 23 August 2026. In this event, efforts will be made to resolve pending matters related to various departments through amicable solutions. While reviewing the current status of department-wise matters, necessary preparations were also discussed.

199 cases identified for special Lok Adalat

It was informed in the review meeting that a total of 199 cases from various departments and legal categories from the state of Uttarakhand have been identified for the Special Lok Adalat. Apart from civil and criminal cases, these also include cases related to banking, consumer disputes, family disputes, labor and industrial law. Apart from this, cases related to land acquisition, compensation, property tax, rent control, eviction, service related disputes and transfer petitions have also been included in this special Lok Adalat.

Instructions to work on priority possibilities of agreement

The Chief Secretary directed all concerned departments to examine the identified cases seriously and wherever there is a possibility of compromise, action should be taken on priority basis. He said that the departments will have to adopt a proactive and positive approach to ensure disposal of maximum cases.

Instructions to nodal officers to increase communication with parties

In the meeting, departmental nodal officers were directed to establish effective communication with the concerned parties and make continuous efforts for amicable resolution of disputes. The Chief Secretary said that the department should review the cases regularly and provide information about their progress from time to time.

Emphasis on strengthening coordination at state and district level

The Chief Secretary said that for the success of the Special Lok Adalat, better coordination at the state and district level is necessary. All departments should work with mutual cooperation and coordination so that the process of resolving cases can be made more effective.

Citizens will get relief from long judicial process

He said that the Special Lok Adalat is an important initiative towards strengthening the alternative dispute redressal system. Through this, citizens will get relief from lengthy judicial process and will also save time and resources. Senior officers and nodal officers of various departments were present in the meeting.
