A Scorpio without number plate dragged a traffic policeman for 10 kilometers during checking on Shaheed Path in Lucknow. The police surrounded and arrested the accused driver. Case registered under serious sections, questions raised again on increasing dominance in the capital.
Lucknow: An incident took place in the capital of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday which raised a big question on law and order. What happened during the routine vehicle checking on Shaheed Path was like a scene from an action movie, but it was the horrifying truth of real life. A traffic policeman, while performing his duty, was suddenly caught in a situation where his life was at risk. The driver of a black Scorpio without number plate stuck it in the car and kept running for about 10 kilometers, but the policeman did not lose courage and kept informing about the situation on walkie-talkie. Ultimately, prompt action by the police caught the accused.
How did the incident begin?
On Saturday afternoon, constable Ranjit Kumar Yadav was engaged in vehicle checking under the supervision of TSI Ajay Kumar Awasthi at Shaheed Path turn of Sarojini Nagar police station area. Meanwhile, a black Scorpio arrived from Kanpur-Lucknow Highway without number plate and started plying at the intersection. When constable Ranjit asked the driver to park the vehicle aside and show the documents, the driver first pretended to cooperate.
But as soon as the policemen reached near the driving seat, without warning the Scorpio moved ahead at high speed. During this, constable Ranjeet’s hand got stuck in the door of the vehicle and he kept running with the vehicle.

A deadly journey of 10 kilometers
The accused driver continuously increased the speed of the vehicle. The Scorpio kept running dragging the policeman for about 10 kilometers. During this time, Ranjeet did not lose courage and somehow held the walkie-talkie with one hand and immediately informed his officers. As soon as the information was received, the police of the entire area became alert. Within minutes the blockade was done and all the routes were sealed.
Accused arrested, Scorpio also recovered
The police cordoned off the vehicle and finally stopped it and identified the driver as Krishna Kumar Goswami, son of Ram Kumar Goswami, resident of Bhagwantpur village in Unnao district. No valid documents were found during the search of Scorpio. The vehicle did not even have a number plate, which has raised many doubts over its use.

“This is not just breaking the rules, it is a deadly crime” – Police
TSI Ajay Kumar Awasthi said, “This is an extremely serious matter. The accused not only violated the law but also endangered the life of our jawan. Strict action will be taken against him.”
Questions raised again on increasing dominance in the capital
This incident once again highlights the growing trend where the traffic police who enforce the rules are becoming the target of anti-social elements. Many times, drunk drivers, supporters of influential people or miscreants misbehave with policemen without any fear. But this time the matter reached the point of playing with life.
