The peace, biodiversity and natural beauty of Dudhwa National Park, situated in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh, is now moving in a new direction. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Board has finalized an ambitious plan to develop Dudhwa as an international level eco-tourism hub.

The aim of this comprehensive action plan is to ease access to Dudhwa, provide a world-class experience to the tourists and give a new impetus to the regional economy. Lucknow In the official information released on 17 November 2025, it was said that after the approval of the state government, these projects will come to the ground in a phased manner, which will establish Dudhwa and the entire area around it on the new map of tourism.

AC bus service between Lucknow and Lakhimpur will run throughout the season, new routes also proposed

To make access easier in Dudhwa, it has been proposed to continue the AC bus service being run as a pilot project between Lucknow-Lakhimpur throughout the eco tourism season. This will provide a very comfortable journey to the tourists coming to Dudhwa from the capital. Also, to increase the convenience of tourists, it has also been suggested to start a new bus service connecting Palia-Mailani and Bichhiya. These proposals to be sent to UPSRTC will help in local development by connecting rural areas with tourism circuits.

Apart from this, it has also been proposed to restart the old Delhi-Lucknow (via Mailani) train and add AC coaches to strengthen the rail route up to Dudhwa. This step will prove especially important for foreign and far-flung tourists.

Air service from Hindon to Palia: Tender process soon, preparation on VGF model

With the aim of strengthening air connectivity, the process of starting air service from Hindon Airport to Palia has been expedited. A tender is being prepared for this service on Viability Gap Funding (VGF) model. Companies registered in India, using 6-seat single or twin engine aircraft and private chartered companies will be given the opportunity to participate in the project. Once this service is approved by the Board, it will be implemented soon, which will significantly reduce the travel time of tourists.

Road projects worth Rs 226 crore: Dudhwa access will become even easier

To strengthen the road route up to Dudhwa, PWD has proposed several important road projects worth Rs 226.82 crore. Prominent among these are:

  • Widening of Palia airstrip (3 m to 10 m) – Rs 21.14 crore
  • 5.7 km widening of Kishanpur Road – Rs 32.95 crore
  • Interlocking on Lakhimpur-Bijua-Bhira-Palia route – Rs 21.6 crore
  • 38.35 km strengthening of Sisaiya-Dhaurahara-Palia Road – Rs 134.23 crore

With the completion of these road projects, access to Dudhwa National Park will become easier, smoother and safer than before. Also, economic activities will get a boost in rural areas.

Green signal given to Rs 8 crore signage and Vistadome coach upgradation

For high quality tourism experience in Dudhwa and surrounding areas, a proposal has been submitted to install signage as per international standards at a cost of Rs 8 crore. The design of these signages is ready and after approval they will soon be installed in the park, which will provide better guidance to the tourists.

Rs 19.28 lakh has been sanctioned for upgradation of 82-seater Vistadome coach to promote experiential tourism. Along with this, a proposal has also been made to start two new boat safaris on the Gerua River in Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in addition to the existing two boats, which will be operated by the Eco Board.

Dudhwa model gives new direction to local economy and employment

The Eco Tourism Board believes that with the implementation of these projects:

  • There is a possibility of at least 30 percent increase in the number of tourists coming to Dudhwa.
  • New employment opportunities will be created for local youth, especially tribal communities
  • The economy of the region will get new strength
  • Eco tourism sector of Uttar Pradesh will get a new identity at the national level.

This step of Yogi government will not only make Dudhwa National Park modern and accessible, but will also establish it as a leader in the category of major eco-tourist destinations of India.
