Yogi government’s big tourism initiative: ‘Geeta Govind Vatika’ to be built in Agra

‘Geeta Govind Vatika’ being developed in the zonal park of Agra is a new initiative to link the cultural and religious identity of Braj with tourism. With theme lighting, laser show, Raasleela staging and Tulsi Van, this project will help in making Agra an overnight destination.

Agra. Yogi government is not limiting the tourism of Braj region to historical monuments only, but is developing it in a new form by connecting it with the rich cultural and religious heritage of Braj. Under this effort, ‘Geeta Govind Vatika’ is being built in 19 acres of zonal park located in Tajnagari Phase-2. The main objective of this garden is to attract tourists visiting Taj Mahal and other monuments to stay for the night and to introduce them to the religious culture of Braj.

‘Geeta Govind Vatika’ is being built with government participation

Under the Chief Minister Tourism Development Partnership Scheme, this garden is being developed at a cost of approximately ₹ 4.20 crore. In this, 50% cost is being borne by the state government and 50% cost is being borne by Agra Development Authority (ADA). The funds will be used to create theme lighting and a grand laser show, which will create a new engaging experience for tourists at night.

Agra is getting a new form of cultural tourism

ADA Vice President M. Arunmoli said that the government aims to make Agra not just a historical city but also a major center of cultural tourism. He told that ‘Geeta Govind Vatika’ is an important part of this thinking. Till now tourists used to visit monuments in Agra only during the day, but this Vatika will provide them a beautiful and cultural place to stay at night. Increasing night stay will boost the local economy and new employment opportunities will also increase.

Unique confluence of faith, nature and Braj culture

A large open-air stage is being built in an area of two acres within the Vatika, where Lord Krishna’s Leelas, Raasleela and various religious programs will be regularly staged. Keeping in mind the religious sentiments, plants of Krishna period plants are being planted here. Along with this, Lord Shri Krishna’s Gita sermons are being recorded on attractive oil paintings and inscriptions. Apart from this, a special Tulsi forest is being developed on one acre of land, which will have 100 species of Tulsi. Visitors will also be given information about the medicinal properties of all these species.

Increased expectations in tourism industry

Amulya Kakkar, President of Agra Tourism Guild, welcomed the project and said that this step will prove to be a big change for the tourism industry. He said that till now Agra was considered a one-day destination, but ‘Geeta Govind Vatika’ will play an important role in making it an overnight destination. Cultural and religious performances at night will attract tourists and provide direct benefits to hotels, restaurants, guide services and local traders.
