The ‘Wilderness Survival Competition’ started on October 1 on an island in East China’s Zhejiang province. Shao stayed there till 5 November, i.e. for 35 days. He got third place for staying there for so long. Received 7,500 Yuan (Rs 88,608) as reward. Apart from this, those who completed 30 days also got an additional 6,000 yuan (Rs 74,430). Besides, 300 yuan (Rs 3,544) was also given for every day.
Shao faced many difficulties while living on the island. It was 40 degree heat there. Because of this his hands became dry and his feet were bitten by many insects. All this had a bad effect on his health. Still, she says that amidst all these challenges, the weight loss from 85 kg to 71 kg is a great achievement.
Shao says that he lost weight because of the protein-rich food found in the forest. Crabs, sea urchins and abalone were their main food. Also, within 35 days he hunted 50 rats, cleaned them and roasted them and ate them. Even after being out of the competition, she brought some rats’ meat with her with the intention of eating it. Shao says that rats are very tasty.
Shao decided to withdraw from the competition after a typhoon hit the island on November 4. She said that she has achieved her goal and now she wants to go home and rest on her bed. Meanwhile, organizers say two men are still present on the island as part of the competition. The winner will get around Rs 7 lakh as reward.
