The demand for the vehicles declared unfit to operate in Delhi NCR has increased across the country, with dealers becoming active to purchase them.
This came after Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announced that End-of-Life (EoL) vehicles will not be provided fuel in Delhi from July 1.
As per reports, dealers from different states have currently come in contact with the local car sellers and buyers of NCR. Experts, cited by Jagran.com, are saying that the price of junk petrol vehicles in NCR has come down by 20 per cent and diesel vehicles by 30 per cent.
The Supreme Court in 2018 imposed a ban on the operation of 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles in view of increasing pollution in the national capital. However, the vehicles were still plying on the roads despite surpassing the age prescribed by the top court.
Vehicle buyers and sellers say that diesel vehicles, especially SUVs like Innova, Fortuner, Scorpio and other vehicles, are in high demand in South Indian states.
Such vehicles in NCR are being taken to Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Bangalore, Goa, Maharashtra, to use them as taxis. Along with this, small diesel and petrol vehicles are being bought and used in Bihar, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Punjab and other states. People are using these vehicles for their personal use, along with taxis.
Till now, owners of expired vehicles in NCR were getting NOC from the local RTO and getting them registered in other districts. These vehicles were being driven in Delhi NCR by getting new numbers from other districts. But now these types of vehicles will also not run in the NCR. The concerned departments are also taking action against these vehicles.
The All India Car Dealers Association (AICDA) has demanded a policy from the Central and Delhi governments in this matter.
“The ban on old vehicles in Delhi and action against them is expected to increase the sale of old and new vehicles. Due to this, the price of banned vehicles in NCR has come down. The vehicle, which used to be sold for up to Rs 1 lakh earlier, is now being priced up to Rs 70000 by dealers from outside states,” Jagran.com quoted a dealer, Vaibhav Singhal, as saying.
