Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to death by the International Criminal Tribunal in Dhaka on murder charges. Calling it a political conspiracy, Hasina said the judicial process was not fair and the mandate-less government targeted her.
Dhaka/New Delhi. Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to death on Monday. He has been sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Dhaka for inciting and ordering the murder. Hasina has been sentenced to life imprisonment in 3 out of 5 cases. Sheikh Hasina gave a sharp reaction on the death sentence and said that my side has not been heard in this.
Death penalty is biased and politically motivated
In her first public reaction, Sheikh Hasina said that the decision has exposed a major political conspiracy of the interim administration. Hasina, 78, also rejected the legitimacy of the tribunal, saying the entire process was designed to eliminate her politically. He further said, “The judgments pronounced against me have been given by a rigged tribunal, established and presided over by an unelected government. A government which has no democratic mandate. The entire judgment is partisan and politically motivated.”
