2030 Commonwealth Games: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday officially approved the country’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games during a Special General Meeting (SGM).
As per the new agency PTI, the country has submitted an Expression of Interest for hosting the 2030 CWG, with Ahmedabad playing host. With the deadline set for August 31, India will have to submit the propositions for the final bid.
India’s chances to host the 2030 CWG have brightened significantly after Canada decided to pull out of the race.

As per PTI, “a team of officials from Commonwealth Sport, led by its Director of Games Darren Hall, recently visited Ahmedabad to inspect the venues and meet Gujarat government officials.”
A big delegation from Commonwealth Sport is scheduled to arrive later this month, signalling greater representation and possible collaboration.
The General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport will determine the host nation in the last week of November in Glasgow. Notably, India once hosted the 2010 edition of the multi-sport event in Delhi.
Earlier this year, the IOA had submitted a letter voicing its interest in hosting the 2030 edition of the Commonwealth Games.
India’s proposal to host all the disciplines which were axed from the 2026 multi-game event, in the aim of ensuring that its medal tally is not affected, was rejected by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).

In recent times, the Commonwealth Games have been labouring to find hosts and the upcoming edition’s fate was also left in jeopardy after the original host, Victoria in Australia, withdrew due to soaring costs.
In a last-minute reprieve, Glasgow came forward to host the Commonwealth Games, albeit in a more simplified format. The city reduced the number of sports to ten and reduced the action to just four venues.
