Varanasi movie budget and cast fees: SS Rajamouli’s upcoming epic, Varanasi, has created a stir across the industry. The film, led by Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, had its grand title reveal at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City, where the trailer was launched to a massive crowd.

The project, earlier known as SSMB29, marks Priyanka’s big return to Indian cinema and her first-ever collaboration with Rajamouli.

Varanasi movie cast fees

According to a report by KoiMoi, Priyanka Chopra has asked for a remarkable Rs 30 crore as her paycheque for Varanasi. If true, this places her amongst the highest-paid actresses to work with Rajamouli. The report added that her fee has seen a significant rise in comparison to other leading ladies who’ve worked in the filmmaker’s blockbusters. Alia Bhatt was reportedly paid Rs 9 crore for RRR, while Anushka Shetty received Rs 5 crore for Baahubali. With this new figure, Priyanka is said to surpass Deepika Padukone, who previously held the position of the highest-paid actress in similar projects.

However, the real shocker has been the buzz around Mahesh Babu’s fee. The publication claimed, citing a close source, that Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli have mutually decided to take zero salary. Instead, both are expected to enter a 40% profit-sharing agreement with the producers. The duo reportedly believes in building a legacy rather than drawing heavy salaries upfront. As the report stated, Mahesh Babu’s earnings will depend entirely on the movie’s eventual profit.

Meanwhile, details about Prithviraj Sukumaran’s fee remain under wraps. Neither the actor nor the makers have hinted at the amount, leaving fans curious about his remuneration in this high-profile film.

The film itself is said to be mounted on a massive Rs 1000 crore budget, making it one of the most ambitious projects in the country. A source told the publication: “SS Rajamouli has kept his word of making films for producers D. V. V. Danayya & Narayana K.L., which was committed when he took signing amounts before the release of Baahubali. He chose to keep his commitment & not return the money, which was an easier option. After SSMB29, he will be a solo producer for all his films and directly partner with studios.”

The teaser opens in 512 CE, showcasing Varanasi’s spiritual landscape. Saints are shown performing a yagna, while Lord Hanuman is seen burning Lanka. The visuals quickly shift to Mahesh Babu, drenched in blood, gripping a trishul as he rides a bull, setting the tone for a fierce, mythic saga.
