PM Modi’s Coimbatore visit: Full traffic advisory and route changes for November 19

Coimbatore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Coimbatore on November 19 to address the South Indian Organic Farmers’ Meeting at the codissia ground. The high-profile visit has prompted the local police to implement extensive traffic regulations across key areas of the city from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Motorists and the public are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays.

Key Restrictions: Road Closures and Prohibitions

Several major thoroughfares will be temporarily closed to ensure the smooth passage of the Prime Minister’s security convoy. Most notably, Avinashi Road and the GT Naidu Flyover will be completely closed from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Additionally, a city-wide prohibition on heavy vehicles will be in effect from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Access to the Coimbatore Airport will also be severely restricted; vehicles and taxis will be prohibited from entering the airport from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Passengers with flights during this window are strongly advised to arrive before 12:00 PM. Those arriving later will need to disembark at Chitra Junction and walk to the terminal. Parking at the airport lot is prohibited from November 16 to 19.

Alternative Routes for Buses and Heavy Vehicles

To manage the flow of commercial traffic, the following diversions have been announced:

  • Incoming from Salem, Erode, Tiruppur: Buses and heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering the city via Nilambur (airport route). Instead, they must take the L&T Bypass via Chinthamanipattur, Ondiputhur, and Singanallur.

  • Outgoing via Avinasi Road: Buses and heavy vehicles heading out of the city on Avinasi Road must take a U-turn at Lakshmi Mill Junction, proceed to Puliyakulam, and then reach the L&T Bypass via Ramanathapuram and Singanallur.

Routes for Light Vehicles and City Commuters

Light vehicles (cars, auto-rickshaws) have been provided with specific alternate routes to navigate the city:

  • Incoming from Neelampur: Light vehicles should turn right at the Thottipalayam section and enter the city via Thottipalayam, Kaikolapalliam, Kalapatti Nal Road, and Vilankurichi.

  • Outgoing via Avinasi Road: Government buses and light vehicles can make a U-turn at the Title Park Junction on Avinasi Road to access Kamaraj Road and proceed towards their destinations via Singanallur Road.

  • General Outbound Traffic: Light vehicles exiting the city will be directed via Chitra junction during the specified times.

The public and motorists are requested to cooperate with traffic police and adhere to these changes for a smooth and secure event. The codissia ground event venue will open to the public after 4:00 PM, following the Prime Minister’s inaugural address.
