Story of Som Pradosh Vrat

According to the popular story, there lived a poor woman in a city. Her husband had died many years ago. He also had a son. That woman used to support her family by begging.

One day when the beggar woman was returning home with her son, she would see an injured boy on the way. The woman brought him with her and started raising him along with her son.
That boy was none other than the prince of Vidarbha country, whose kingdom had been captured by the enemies and his father had been taken captive. The prince had somehow escaped from there and came here.
The prince did not tell anything about himself to anyone. One day when the prince went to the forest to collect wood, a Gandharva girl named Anshumati became attracted to him. He told this to his father also.
Gandhav knew about the girl’s father prince, so he got his daughter married to him. Taking the army of Gandharvas, the prince liberated his country and his father from the enemies.
The prince made the son of that poor woman his chief advisor and made him rich by giving him money and grains etc. In this way all of them started living happily with each other in the Vidharva country.
That poor woman was a devotee of Lord Shiva and used to fast on every Pradosh. Due to the effect of this fast, he and his son got every kind of happiness in life. Therefore, Pradosh fast is considered to have special importance.
