Daryl Mitchell Ruled Out: New Zealand team is currently playing home ODI series against West Indies. The first match of the 3-ODI series was played on 16 November, in which the hosts defeated the Caribbean team. The hero of this victory of New Zealand was Darryl Mitchell who scored a century in the match. The impact of his century was that the Kiwi team was successful in taking a 1-0 lead in the series. But, after scoring that century, Darryl Mitchell is now out of the team for the next match. It is also being said that he will not play the series anymore. The question is why?
What happened to Darryl Mitchell?
Darryl Mitchell scored 119 runs in 118 balls in the first ODI against West Indies, which included 12 fours and 2 sixes. This was the 7th century scored by his bat in ODI. But, during this brilliant innings, something also happened which became the reason for his being out of the next match. Darryl Mitchell complained of hamstring problem during his century against West Indies. He started feeling pain in his thigh. Due to this problem, he could not even come on the field for fielding.
Why was Mitchell out of the team?
Darryl Mitchell was scanned to know the severity of his injury, after seeing the report of which it was decided that he would not go to Napier for the next match. Meaning he will not play the second ODI against West Indies. Not only this, there is suspense over his playing in the third ODI also. Meaning, he seems to be out of the series itself.
Nicklas gets a chance in place of Mitchell
New Zealand has called Henry Nicholls to compensate for Darryl Mitchell, who has the experience of 81 ODIs but has only one century in his name. Now, if compared to Darryl Mitchell who played 56 ODIs, Nicholls has the experience of playing 25 more ODIs. But Mitchell has scored 6 more centuries than Henry Nicholls even after playing less matches. The second ODI between New Zealand and West Indies is to be played on 19 November in Napier.
