Som Pradosh Vrat Katha: Pradosh fast is considered very special and important. Pradosh fast is observed twice every month i.e. on Trayodashi tithi of Krishna and Shukla Paksha. According to the legend, there used to be a Brahmin woman in a city. Her husband had died. She used to support herself and her son by begging along with her son. Besides, she used to observe Pradosh fast and worship Lord Shiva as per the rules. One day when Brahmini was returning home, she found an injured young man on the way. That young man was groaning in pain. The Brahmin felt pity on him.
After this Brahmini brought the injured young man to her home. That young man was the prince of Vidarbha. The enemies had captured his father and captured his kingdom. The prince started living at the Brahmini’s house. One day, a Gandharva girl named Anshumati fell in love with the prince after seeing him. The next day Anshumati took the prince to meet her parents. He also liked the prince.
Lord Shiva appeared in the dreams of Anshumati’s parents and ordered them to marry the prince and Anshumati. After this Anshumati and Rajkumar were married. Then with the help of Gandharva army, the prince conquered Vidarbha and his enemies and lived happily after getting back his father’s kingdom. The prince appointed Brahmani’s son as his prime minister.
Due to the greatness of Brahmini’s Pradosh fast, the days of the prince, his (Brahmini’s) and his son changed. Similarly, Mahadev changes the days of his other devotees.
