India vs South Africa, Kolkata Test: South Africa has defeated India by 30 runs in the first test match played in Kolkata. After 15 years, the African team has won a test match on Indian soil. Team India had a target of 124 runs in the second innings, but the entire team was limited to 93 runs. In the first innings, Africa batted first and scored 159, in reply the Indian batsmen took the lead by scoring 189. Even after that, we had to face defeat on the third day itself. Let us tell you about the 5 biggest reasons for this defeat…
India did not make a big lead in the first innings
Even after bowling out South Africa for 159 in the first innings, the Indian team was not successful in gaining a big lead. Even though the bowling was good, when it came to batting, not a single batsman of Team India was successful in scoring a fifty. In reply to South Africa’s 159, India scored 189 runs, giving a lead of 30 runs. Team India should have achieved at least a lead of 100 in this innings.
India’s middle order completely failed
The middle order of Team India completely failed in this match. No batsman was successful in playing a big innings. Opener Rahul scored 39 runs, which was the highest individual score made by any Indian batsman in the first innings. Apart from them, Rishabh Pant scored 27, Ravindra Jadeja 27, Washington Sundar 29, Shubman Gill 4 and Yashasvi Jaiswal (as opener) scored only 1 run.

India’s batting is useless against spin bowlers
The Indian team proved in the Kolkata Test how their batsmen would face trouble in playing spin. Just as the spin bowlers of New Zealand and West Indies had troubled them, in the same way the spin bowlers of South Africa also did not allow them to play. No batsman could stand before his brilliant spin. However, fast bowler Marco Jensen also got 3 successes. But, the real net was woven by Spin.
Indian batsmen could not handle Simon Harmer
Indian batsmen could not face South African spin bowler Simon Harmer in this match. This spin bowler took a total of 8 wickets in both the innings combined. In the first innings, they took 4 wickets for 30 runs (Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel and Akshar Patel) in 15.2 overs, while in the second innings, they took 4 wickets for 21 runs (Dhruv Jurel, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav).
Shubman Gill could not bat due to injury
Another biggest reason behind India’s defeat was Shubman Gill not batting. In the second day’s play, he had to leave the field due to neck stiffness, after which he could not bat. On the morning of the third day, BCCI gave an official update that he is now out of this test. In such a situation, Team India suffered a big blow in the form of a big batsman. Perhaps if Gill had been there, these 30 runs could have been scored.
