The first match of the Test series against South Africa was nothing special for Indian Test team’s star opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. He failed in both the innings of this match played at Eden Garden, Kolkata. He was out after scoring only 12 runs in the first innings of the match. In such a situation, he was expected to perform well in the second innings, but he once again flopped, due to which he got to see a bad day for the first time in his illustrious career.
This ‘accident’ happened for the first time with Jaiswal
In this match, South Africa set a target of 124 runs for Team India. But the start of the Indian team was nothing special. India got a big blow in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the very first over. He faced 4 balls and got out without opening the account. Let us tell you, this was the first time in India when Yashasvi Jaiswal was out in a Test without opening an account. Before this, he had scored at least 1 run in all the 12 test matches played in India.
The impact of this poor performance on his average was also big. In fact, his average in tests has now gone below 50. Before this test his average was 51.65, but this duck had a deep impact on his figures. Now he has 2440 runs in 27 tests and his average has slipped below 50 to 49.79. Yashasvi Jaiswal made a splash in Test cricket right from his debut. At the age of just 21, he caught everyone’s attention by scoring a brilliant century against West Indies. After that he also left his mark against teams like England and Australia. But his record against Africa was nothing special.
Poor record against Africa
Yashasvi Jaiswal has played 3 test matches against South Africa so far. But in these matches he has been able to score only 62 runs at a poor average of 10.33. His biggest score against South Africa is 28 runs. That means his bat has not been used even once against this team.
