EPFO’s new update.
The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made a major change in the process of creating a universal account number (UAN). Since 1 August 2025, for the new UAN, face authentication from Aadhaar card has been made mandatory. This work can be done only through Umang app.
But this new rule can cause trouble for many employees. Employees whose mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar, or those who do not have a smartphone or do not have the right camera will have problems in face authentication, which may make their UAN become stuck.
PF account will not be active delayed in UAN
If UAN is not made, then the PF account of the employee will not be active and in such a situation, the money of his PF will not be deposited on time, which will not only delay PF balance. However, those who are already registered in EPFO and those who already have UAN number do not have to worry, this new rule has been implemented only for new employees.
Which people can have problems?
This new system can especially cause trouble for those whose mobile number is not linked to their Aadhaar card. Apart from this, due to lack of good camera of mobile phones, face scanning can also cause problems. Apart from this, big staffing companies, which provide jobs to employees on contract, can be most difficult from this new process.
What is Umang app and how will it help?
Umang app is a mobile app of the Government of India, in which many government services including EPFO are available in one place. New employees will now have to use this app to get their facial authentication done, only then their UAN number will be able to be made.
Why did face authentication necessary?
It has been seen many times that two UAN numbers are formed in the name of the same person or by the basis of someone else, it becomes UAN. EPFO has implemented this face recognition technique to avoid such disturbances and make identity perfectly correct.
